The Cyber Essentials certification is a UK government-backed scheme that helps organisations protect themselves against common cyber threats. It sets out a baseline of cybersecurity measures that organisations need to have in place to mitigate the risk from internet-based threats. By achieving the Cyber Essentials certification, organisations demonstrate their commitment to cybersecurity best practices and enhance their resilience against cyber attacks.

To achieve Cyber Essentials certification, you will need to complete a self-assessment questionnaire covering five key cybersecurity controls. An accredited certification body reviews the evidence and conducts an external vulnerability scan. Upon meeting requirements, you'll receive certification valid for one year.

While Cyber Essentials focuses on basic cybersecurity controls, involving a self-assessment questionnaire and an external vulnerability scan, Cyber Essentials Plus adds an internal scan and an on-site assessment, offering a higher level of assurance. Cyber Essentials Plus is recommended for organisations with more complex IT environments or for those needing a higher level of security assurance.
