Should we move from on-premises SharePoint to SharePoint Online?

Is SharePoint Online better than on-premises SharePoint in 2026?
For most small and mid-sized businesses, yes. SharePoint Online is fully managed by Microsoft, so there is no server patching or hardware to maintain, you get new features automatically, and it is the foundation for Microsoft 365 Copilot, Teams and the Power Platform. On-premises SharePoint is still relevant for a small number of organisations with strict data residency or regulatory requirements, but for most teams, SharePoint Online with the right governance in place is the better fit.
Can you migrate our file server or Dropbox into SharePoint?
